Middle school phase: Grade 8 and Grade 9

At AMEDEO, our learners are guided to adjust to a greater workload of higher intensity in this phase. Our teaching is aimed at developing innovative and critical thinking.

AMEDEO places a great emphasis on problem-solving and individual thinking, while 21st-century learning is implemented in subjects such as Technology and Natural Sciences.

Learners are taught to maintain a sustainable work ethic so that they can find a healthy balance to reach their academic expectations. Furthermore, learners may choose isiZulu as an optional first additional language, and they receive guidance when choosing their elective subjects at the end of Grade 9.

FET phase: Grade 10 to Grade 12

The FET phase prepares learners for the CAPS examinations written at the end of Grade 12. However, we emphasise a greater world-readiness rather than a purely examination-driven approach. Our learners are taught to think innovatively, express their ideas and take charge of their own lives to one day reach their goals and become self-confident, achieving adults. This approach has proven to be successful, as evident by our excellent matric results.

Curriculum

Amedeo has a creative approach to building a curriculum that meets the requirements of the statutory CAPS syllabus. Amedeo offers a curriculum that has clear educational purpose, is delivered with imagination. Rather than subjects driving the curriculum, it’s the needs of children that should determine the emphasis. At Amedeo we know this. Balancing children’s needs with the creative curriculum will always be a challenge, but instead of the two acting in opposition we can ensure the content of the curriculum meets the needs of children and fulfils the requirements.

Principles for creative themes

At Amedeo, we plan creative themes, whilst keeping the following principles in mind:

1. We make it real

The more real the learning experience, the more likely it is that children will engage. Amedeo makes the theme real to children – it should not be abstract or too far removed from their experience. If something is based in the past, for example, try to think of the legacy it has left and start with that.

The following subjects are offered by our specialists: Grade 7 – 9:
